LITTLE BY LITTLE « Que signifie vous donner complètement à Dieu?

Retranscription des paroles de la vidéo: of course I want to give myself completely to Jesus what do you mean sometimes I don’t understand people who don’t understand it hello folks my name is Father Columba I am a Franciscan frider of the renewal so uh my you can see my uniform this is part of my wear it every day this is what I wear around my belts let me stand up I think I’ve shown you it’s called a snure around my belt I think I talked about this in an earlier uh talk but franciscans you always Rec this cuz we have these three knots on our rope these three knots represent the three vows that we make to God when we make our final vows well actually we do even before final vows in my community it’s six years from joining to making your final vows and you’d live the the temp you’d live these vows temporarily you now for one year at a time for about I did for three but now it’s done for four years so the three vows are poverty Chastity and obedience and these just help us to remember and it’s also a visible sign to the world poverty Chastity and obedience or as one of the brothers made up one time in the Bronx no money no honey and a boss no money I don’t make a wage it’s all just held in common we live completely off donations no honey Chastity never get married and never have like relationships like that like you have friendships but you’re not like dating or anything romantic you’re not having kids you given marriage and kids and all that stuff up it’s huge and then having a boss or obedience so there’s always in each of the Fri a house there’s always someone who’s in charge and then there’s someone who’s elected to be in charge of the whole community and we believe that God works through that that relationship that as I Surrender my will over to this guy that God actually will work through that and it’s a way for me to hand over my will to God now why would anybody live that it just doesn’t really make sense I’ve just been thinking about this recently and I’ve been thinking about it in connection to Jesus and the Eucharist in the Eucharist what do we see we believe it’s truly Jesus body blood soul and Divinity okay so this is really Jesus coming onto the Altar and as soon as he comes onto the Altar and mean we say some prayers we ask God through Jesus for some stuff to bless the world and the church and all the rest of it and then we we receive in Holy Communion we receive Jesus in the Eucharist we consume him okay and that’s the trajectory the ark that’s the whole point of the mass it actually culminates in that moment of communion when we receive Jesus and it’s called The Holy sacrifice of the mass so Jesus is a constant gift St John Paul II talked about the reality uh that every human can only experience their fulfillment when they live as a self- gift they live the gift of self they live in order to give themselves away to another he especially talked about this in relationship to marriage and he he talked about all the aspects of marriage being a way in which the spouses give themselves to each other they give them themselves away for the sake of the other and this can be done in an unhealthy way of course in a codependent weird way but that’s not what Jesus is calling us to he’s calling us to this free gift of love and then also to receive the other right so that’s present in marriage because it’s present in God and Jesus is the full revelation of God so then we see in him this one who gives himself for all this is continuously made visible every day on the altars in Catholic churches all around the world and why would Jesus do this because this is what he sees his father do I do only what I see my father do so Jesus has for from all eternity been this total self- gift back to the father and since the Incarnation he’s now a total self-gift back to the father for us so he kind of includes Us in that movement of of self-gift to the father and he’s also a total self- gift to me and then Jesus reveals me to me the Eucharist reveals me to me I was thinking recently on About the Passion you know Jesus did not have to give everything like he gave he could have suffered a little bit and that would have been sufficient because everything that the Son of God does as an act of God is an infinite act all of our sins St Thomas aquinus quotes this blood that but but one drop of has the power to win all the world’s Redemption from its world of sin something I thought that’s one of the translations so just one drop of his blood would be enough that this perfect gift of self from an infinite being boom that’s infinite is infinite so it pays off the infinite price the debt of our sin done but Jesus didn’t just do a little bit he didn’t just do okay that’s enough he is always total and and this is the whole thing like the the total gift of the father to the son Jesus isn’t partly God the Father didn’t just partly well I give you this little bit of being God like no this total gift of utter outpouring of himself this perfect expression of all that is in the heart of God is Jesus and Jesus then is this total self gift back to the Father the on the cross we see this utter gift unto absolute emptying death on the cross nothing nothing held back and then we see it in the Eucharist spread over time this is what we see in this kind of moment of the crucifixion we see it stretched out over all of humanity all the world all time in the Eucharist where Jesus is giving and giving and giving and giving himself totality all that he is he gives to us and he humbly invites us into that same thing that we would give ourselves to him and we would give ourselves for others take all of that in mind I realize that’s a lot of stuff there if we take all of that in mind then to me these three little vows make perfect sense why this isn’t this isn’t for everyone it’s not like that everybody has to become a Franciscan frer of the renewal or a naan or a priest or whatever but he says not all can hear this but there are those who were born Unix there were those who were made Unix by men and those there are those who have made themselves Unix for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven let those who can hear this hear this he raises up some in this world who nothing else will satisfy their heart except to give themselves totally in response to him who gave himself totally and is it not what God is worth this is why like a lot of people when they when they meet some of the what we call the lay Brothers in our community so brothers who they’ve joined the community they’re in I but they don’t feel the call to the priesthood but they feel a call to live the vows and to live this way of life so they want to serve the poor and evangelize but people kind of they don’t understand that necessarily so like oh you know have you ever thought of going all the way meaning to become a priest the person obviously doesn’t understand the enormity of what is what is being lived in front of him the enormity of the self-sacrifice the enormity of the gift of self self that is so fragrant and pleasing to God what that brother lives is actually what I feel called to live too is to make a total self-gift of myself in the the these three major areas the the major areas of our life because it Taps right into the Temptation in Eden uh temp The Temptations that Jesus went through in the desert The Three core Temptations of existence power possessions and pleasure these three core Temptations are responded to in the vows by a total movement in the opposite direction what is being being lived by a lay brother by a consecrated religious it is somewhat being imitated by the diois and priesthood uh but that’s somewhat of a later thing in Imitation of particularly the early monks but this desire to live a life consecrated to God you don’t see this so much unfortunately in Protestant churches you do see it in the anglicans sowhat and I’m not exactly sure their theology you definitely see it in the Orthodox and you see it all over the place obviously with Catholics Souls who have this longing and this call and this Grace because if you tried to do this without God’s grace you forget it they have this grace and this calling to give themselves completely back to God who gave himself completely it is some tiny return to the totality of what he has done and how important that is because what does that do well for me living with brothers who live this and knowing so many people who are consecrated religious or indeed uh consecrated virgins who aren’t in a religious community but are under their bishop and they feel is called to make vows it is a incredible act of worship to someone who is really in love with the Lord the vows just make sense it’s like of course I want to give myself completely to Jesus what do you mean sometimes I don’t understand people who don’t understand it we have religious in the world so that they can make visible to us our calling your calling as a responder to the love of Jesus he asks for all of your heart in the context of your vocation so you’re married you’re single you’re whatever you are you’re still Discerning that’s not a permanent vocation by the way the thing is today Lord I want to give all of my heart to you I want to know what my vocation is so I can give myself totally to you where is the place where is my cross on which I can offer myself completely to you whatever that might look like or be like yeah thanks be to God thanks be to God for this great gift this opportunity thanks be to God for the Eucharist where Jesus reveals to us and continuously is living what it is that we very poorly attempt to imitate and there is the source that is that’s we go to the Eucharist to receive the grace to be like the Eucharist to be like Jesus in his self gift there you go Lads hope that’s helpful God bless you now which do I turn off first I usually turn you off first bye now lovely .

0.199 this because this is what he sees his
0.199 father do I do only what I see my father
0.199 do so Jesus has for from all eternity
0.199 been this total self- gift back to the
0.199 father and since the Incarnation he&;s
0.199 now a total self-gift back to the father
0.199 for us so he kind of includes Us in that
0.199 movement of of self-gift to the father
0.199 and he&;s also a total self- gift to me
0.199 and then Jesus reveals me to me the
0.199 Eucharist reveals me to me I was
0.199 thinking recently on About the Passion
0.199 you know Jesus did not have to give
0.199 everything like he gave he could have
0.199 suffered a little bit and that would
0.199 have been sufficient because everything
0.199 that the Son of God does as an act of
0.199 God is an infinite act all of our sins
0.199 St Thomas aquinus quotes this blood that
0.199 but but one drop of has the power to win
0.199 all the world&;s Redemption from its
0.199 world of sin something I thought that&;s
0.199 one of the translations so just one drop
0.199 of his blood would be enough that this
0.199 perfect gift of self from an infinite
0.199 being boom that&;s infinite is infinite
0.199 so it pays off the infinite price the
0.199 debt of our sin done but Jesus didn&;t
0.199 just do a little bit he didn&;t just do
0.199 okay that&;s enough he is always total
0.199 and and this is the whole thing like the
0.199 the total gift of the father to the son
0.199 Jesus isn&;t partly God the Father didn&;t
0.199 just partly well I give you this little
0.199 bit of being God like no this total gift
0.199 of utter outpouring of himself this
0.199 perfect expression of all that is in the
0.199 heart of God is Jesus and Jesus then is
0.199 this total self gift back to the Father
0.199 the on the cross we see this utter gift
0.199 unto absolute emptying death on the
0.199 cross nothing nothing held back and then
0.199 we see it in the Eucharist spread over
0.199 time this is what we see in this kind of
0.199 moment of the crucifixion we see it
0.199 stretched out over all of humanity all
0.199 the world all time in the Eucharist
0.199 where Jesus is giving and giving and
0.199 giving and giving himself totality all
0.199 that he is he gives to us and he humbly
0.199 invites us into that same thing that we
0.199 would give ourselves to him and we would
0.199 give ourselves for others take all of
0.199 that in mind I realize that&;s a lot of
0.199 stuff there if we take all of that in
0.199 mind then to me these three little vows
0.199 make perfect
0.199 sense why this isn&;t this isn&;t for
0.199 everyone it&;s not like that everybody
0.199 has to become a Franciscan frer of the
0.199 renewal or a naan or a priest or
0.199 whatever but he says not all can hear
0.199 this but there are those who were born
0.199 Unix there were those who were made
0.199 Unix by men
0.199 and those there are those who have made
0.199 themselves Unix for the sake of the
0.199 Kingdom of Heaven let those who can hear
0.199 this hear this he raises up some in this
0.199 world who nothing else will satisfy
0.199 their heart except to give themselves
0.199 totally in response to him who gave
0.199 himself totally and is it not what God
0.199 is worth this is why like a lot of
0.199 people when they when they meet some of
0.199 the what we call the lay Brothers in our
0.199 community so brothers who they&;ve joined
0.199 the community they&;re in I but they
0.199 don&;t feel the call to the priesthood
0.199 but they feel a call to live the vows
0.199 and to live this way of life so they
0.199 want to serve the poor and evangelize
0.199 but people kind of they don&;t understand
0.199 that necessarily so like oh you know
0.199 have you ever thought of going all the
0.199 way meaning to become a priest the
0.199 person obviously doesn&;t understand the
0.199 enormity of what is what is being lived
0.199 in front of him the enormity of the
0.199 self-sacrifice the enormity of the gift
0.199 of self self that is so fragrant and
0.199 pleasing to God what that brother lives
0.199 is actually what I feel called to live
0.199 too is to make a total self-gift of
0.199 myself in the the these three major
0.199 areas the the major areas of our life
0.199 because it Taps right into the
0.199 Temptation in Eden uh temp The
0.199 Temptations that Jesus went through in
0.199 the desert The Three core Temptations of
0.199 existence power possessions and pleasure
0.199 these three core Temptations are
0.199 responded to in the vows by a total
0.199 movement in the opposite direction what
0.199 is being being lived by a lay brother by
0.199 a consecrated religious it is somewhat
0.199 being imitated by the diois and
0.199 priesthood uh but that&;s somewhat of a
0.199 later thing in Imitation of particularly
0.199 the early monks but this desire to live
0.199 a life consecrated to God you don&;t see
0.199 this so much unfortunately in Protestant
0.199 churches you do see it in the anglicans
0.199 sowhat and I&;m not exactly sure their
0.199 theology you definitely see it in the
0.199 Orthodox and you see it all over the
0.199 place obviously with Catholics Souls who
0.199 have this longing
0.199 and this call and this Grace because if
0.199 you tried to do this without God&;s grace
0.199 you forget it they have this grace and
0.199 this calling to give themselves
0.199 completely back to God who gave himself
0.199 completely it is some tiny return to the
0.199 totality of what he has done and how
0.199 important that is because what does that
0.199 do well for me living with brothers who
0.199 live this and knowing so many people who
0.199 are consecrated religious or indeed uh
0.199 consecrated virgins who aren&;t in a
0.199 religious community but are under their
0.199 bishop and they feel is called to make
0.199 vows it is a incredible act of worship
0.199 to someone who is really in love with
0.199 the Lord the vows just make sense it&;s
0.199 like of course I want to give myself
0.199 completely to Jesus what do you
0.199 mean sometimes I don&;t understand people
0.199 who don&;t understand it we have
0.199 religious in the world so that they can
0.199 make visible to us our calling your
0.199 calling as a responder to the love of
0.199 Jesus he asks for all of your heart in
0.199 the context of your vocation so you&;re
0.199 married you&;re single you&;re whatever
0.199 you are you&;re still Discerning that&;s
0.199 not a permanent vocation by the way the
0.199 thing is today Lord I want to give all
0.199 of my heart to you I want to know what
0.199 my vocation is so I can give myself
0.199 totally to you where is the place where
0.199 is my cross on which I can offer myself
0.199 completely to you whatever that might
0.199 look like or be like yeah thanks be to
0.199 God thanks be to God for this great gift
0.199 this opportunity thanks be to God for
0.199 the Eucharist where Jesus reveals to us
0.199 and continuously is living what it is
0.199 that we very poorly attempt to imitate
0.199 and there is the source that is that&;s
0.199 we go to the Eucharist to receive the
0.199 grace to be like the Eucharist to be
0.199 like Jesus in his self gift there you go
0.199 Lads hope that&;s helpful God bless you
0.199 now which do I turn off first I usually
